Mixson Farmers Market Kick-Off!
It’s finally that time of year again when the Mixson Farmers Market gets back into full-swing! This year the Mixson Farmers Market in partnership with GrowFood Carolina will celebrate their grand opening on Saturday, April 9th from 10am to 2pm. This will be a nice kick-off party that will feature fresh produce from GrowFood’s network of S.C. farmers, but also include chef demos, kids activities and live music from the V-tones!
There will be a lot of food education at this event as well, so if you’re into that kind of stuff, then prepare to learn about making your own yogurt at home, or having your children learn about strawberry pie waffle cones offered by the Tiny Tastemakers initiative. There will even be a healthy dessert bar featuring freshly made yogurt, toppings and fruit. Get recipes, info on local farms and more for only $5!
Of course, the day would not be complete without a Pie contest. The Sweet & Savory Local Pie Contest will be guest judged by Cake Farmer Amy Robinette and pie’s will be available for sale at the market. If you want to enter your pie into the contest, just bring a fresh one to the event at noon. The pie contest rules stipulate that the pie has to be made with local produce and can either be sweet or savory. The top pies will win prizes!
The best thing about the Mixson Farmers Market is their monthly highlight of seasonal ingredients. The Market and GrowFood Carolina will be your go-to place to buy fresh produce grown by local S.C. farmers. Remember to visit them every second Saturday, each month from 10am to 2pm between April and July. You won’t regret it!
